Current research

My research focuses on the molecular design and synthesis of pi-conjugated materials for applications in organic electronic and photonic devices, and supramolecular self-assembly at the nanoscale.

Recent results

Our work on surface-confined assemblies addresses the current challenge of using non-covalent functionalisation of graphene for photonic applications. We attempt to solve the issue of surface quenching of the fluorescence of adsorbed molecules on graphene via the use of supramolecular dyads. This relatively simple design enabled us to control the orientation of an emissive molecule above a graphene-like substrate though different supramolecular interactions (M-L vs π-π) and opens up an accessible route to electronically de-couple an optically active molecule from graphene
